How to resize an image to exact pixel dimensions

Enter your target width and height in the input fields above. Click the lock button (🔓) to enable aspect ratio lock — when locked, changing the width automatically adjusts the height proportionally (and vice versa), preventing distortion. Choose a resize mode: Fit to keep the full image with background padding, Fill to crop to frame, or Stretch to force exact dimensions.

When should you lock the aspect ratio?

Lock the aspect ratio when you want to resize proportionally — for example, reducing a 4000×3000 photo to fit within 1200px wide while keeping the same proportions. This avoids squashing or stretching distortion. Unlock the aspect ratio only when you specifically need a non-proportional resize — for example, cropping to a fixed 1:1 square or a specific banner width and height.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to specific pixel dimensions?
Enter your target width and height in the fields. Upload or paste your image. The tool will resize your image to exactly those dimensions using your chosen mode (Fit, Fill, or Stretch). Download in JPG, PNG, or WEBP format. No upload to server is required — everything runs in your browser.
What does aspect ratio lock do?
When the aspect ratio lock is active (🔒), changing the width input automatically recalculates and updates the height to maintain the original image proportions — and vice versa. This prevents your image from being stretched or squashed when resizing. The ratio is calculated from the original image dimensions when you toggle the lock on.
Will resizing reduce image quality?
Resizing down (making smaller) rarely causes noticeable quality loss — the image simply has fewer pixels. Resizing up (upscaling) soft-interpolates pixels, which can cause some blurring, especially for large increases. Download as PNG for lossless output. JPG at 95% quality (this tool's default) is visually indistinguishable from PNG for photographic images at normal sizes.
What is the maximum image size this tool supports?
This tool accepts input files up to 15MB and can output images up to 8000×8000 pixels. For very large output dimensions, processing may take a few seconds as the browser allocates canvas memory. All processing runs locally — no server timeout limits apply.
What format should I download in?
JPG is best for photos and when file size matters. PNG is best when you need lossless quality or transparency (note: this tool fills transparency with the background colour). WEBP gives the smallest file size with excellent quality and is supported by all modern browsers. Most social media and government portals require JPG.
