For Indian Passport Seva, the maximum is 100KB in JPEG format. The minimum is typically 10KB. US DS-160 allows up to 240KB. Most other portals (Schengen, UK) use 100KB. When in doubt, use our 100KB default — it meets most passport and visa requirements worldwide.
Does compressing a passport photo affect its acceptance? ▾
No — all passport portals use face-detection algorithms that work on the face region, not overall image sharpness. A well-compressed 100KB JPEG retains full face detail and passes biometric validation. Only very low quality (below 20KB for a full-colour face photo) may cause issues.
Will my image be uploaded or stored? ▾
